Description Technical Specs
The simple yet highly effective Swedish Firesteel, sometimes known as a "Fireflash", is the most dependable means of lighting a fire with sparks.

Unlike a box of matches or a cigarette lighter, the Firesteel can light literally thousands of fires (the manufacturer claims 12,000 strikes).  A further benefit of these simple firelighting tools is that there are no moving parts to break.

While a Firesteel will corrode if kept damp for an extended period of time this fire-making gadget's effectiveness is not diminished by having been wet. So if the rain has soaked you to your skin or if you fall out of your canoe, you always have the means to light a fire.  This makes the Swedish Firesteel ideal for wilderness use.

At nearly 3,000 degrees Celsius (5,500 degrees Fahrenheit), the sparks from a Firesteel will light the widest range of natural and man-made tinders of any of the spark-producing gadgets.

Not only are the sparks generated very hot, you can also produce a large concentrated spark or a shower of sparks depending on what you need. It takes a little practice but is well worth the effort.

With caution, a fireflash can also be used to light gas and multi-fuel camping stoves.

For any age group we recommend the full-sized Firesteels over the smaller ‘Scout’ or ‘Mini’ models as they are easier to hold and strike - even for children - and they last a lot longer.

A full-sized Firesteel is amongst Frontier Bushcraft founder, Paul Kirtley's pieces of essential wilderness equipment.

The Army Model 2.0 Swedish Firesteel is a full-size "Fireflash", including ergonomic handles and an improved striker with integral emergency whistle. This is by far and away the best Swedish Firesteel yet.

The Army Model 2.0 Firesteels are used extensively on Frontier Bushcraft courses.
